On-Hire Surveys or Off-Hire Surveys of vessels or marine structures may be considered as an independent snap-shot of the condition of a vessel at a particular time and location in the commercial operation of the vessel. The surveys are usually undertaken immediately before the vessel is delivered into a Charter, or immediately prior to redelivery from a Charter and serve to eliminate ambiguity in the vessel’s condition at these times. Such surveys allow the ship owner and the charterer to agree on responsibility for repairs. In addition, after or before certain chartering period bunker ROB survey is conducted.
Prior to chartering a vessel, it is often prudent to request a “suitability” survey. We can perform these surveys with the purpose of ensuring that a ship or is suitable for the intended purposes of the charterer. By performing such surveys future problems can be avoided and operational downtime or lack of efficiency can be avoided. Suitability surveys can also identify possible operational or safety issues should a ship which is unsuitable for the intended purpose be selected for charter.
